PAX East 2013: Hawken Hands On

The free to play business model has exploded in recent years, which was more than evident from the offerings found on the PAX East show floor; there were a ton to be found. And most could be easily confused for each other; generally speaking, they're first person shooters. You're usually some grunt running around in space marine attire.

But not Hawken . Other than a first person view, the similarities end there. If there were any other free to play mech games, or mech games period at the show, I completely missed them. After many months of build up, it was unleashed at last in the form of an open beta at the tail end of 2012 and has been going strong ever since, if not stronger.

PAX East 2013: The Wonderful 101 Hands On

Nintendo's booth at PAX East was a bit disappointing, to put it a mildly. Those expecting an abundance of software to help justify the purchase of the Wii U last Christmas were left mostly disappointed. There honestly wasn't a whole lot to speak of.

Nintendo was clearly still trying to introduce the software to the masses, hence why New Super Mario Bros U and Nintendo Land was present, despite being out for months now. Otherwise, you had some third party offerings, but they too can already be found on store shelves. Though, both LEGO City: Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate had just come out, so it was many people's first chance ever to play those games.

As for stuff that was actually knew, you had Pikmin 3 and Game & Wario from Nintendo. They're cool...

PAX East was the place to see (and play) the hottest games for the PC and consoles. Fans of pen and paper plus collectable games were also covered. But iOS and Android had its fair share of presence as well.

Like Usagi Yojimbo: The Way of the Ronin , a smart phone game based upon Stan Sakai's most well known and beloved character. It's actually been out for a couple of weeks now, though the game was recently updated. Among the many necessary fixes were performance enhancements across every supported device, plus the size of the app itself has been slimmed down considerably.

The game itself is a side-scrolling brawler. Think Streets of Rage , though the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game is a better comparison. The graphics are actually quite superb; sprites are nice...

Another Marvel Universe villain is set to appear in Anthony and Joe Russo's Captain America: The First Avenger as Latino Review reports that UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre will be playing French kickboxing master Georges Batroc, AKA Batroc the Leaper.

With origins dating all the way back to 1966's "Tales of Suspense" #75, Batroc doesn't have any superhuman abilities beyond his mastery of martial arts. While he's primarily a Cap foe, he's appeared throughout the Marvel Universe and done battle with the likes of Spider-Man, the Punisher, Iron Fist and many more.

Ryan Reynolds Not Interested in Returning as Green Lantern Right Now

It's well known that Warner Bros. is working to bring DC Comics' Justice League to the big screen but the studio may need to find a new protector of Sector 2814. In an interview today with Empire , Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds explains that he's not planning on reprising his Hal Jordan role anytime soon.

"I saw how difficult it is to make that concept palatable," he explains, "and how confused it all can be when you don't really know exactly where you're going with it or you don't really know how to access that world properly. Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment confirmed today that Kate Winslet will star as Jeanine Matthews in the studio's futuristic action adventure Divergent . She joins previously-announced cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jai Courtney, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort and Maggie Q.

The film, based on author Veronica Roth's New York Times bestseller, will be directed by Neil Burger from a script by Vanessa Taylor and commences principal photography this April in Chicago. Hot News: Rainn Wilson to Headline Detective Series Backstrom

First announced last July, Leif G.W. Persson's series of Swedish detective novels, Backstrom , is headed to the small screen. Today, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that "The Office" and Super star Rainn Wilson has signed on to play the title character.

The books follow the adventures of an overweight detective, Evert Backstrom who manages to solve crimes despite his ornery disposition. In the American version, the name will be changed to Everett Backstrom and the location to Portland, Oregon.

Hart Hanson, the creator of "Bones", is attached to write and executive produce a pilot with Persson and Niclas Salomonsson producing as well.

Rutger Hauer Has Some Wild Hair on the True Blood Set

With a fancy suit, pipe and some wild white hair, actor Rutger Hauer was spotted sauntering onto the set of "True Blood." ShockTillYouDrop.com has the first pics of Hauer waiting for you here !

The HBO series is entering its sixth season this summer and welcoming Hauer as a character named "Macklyn."

The Dutch actor signed up for the series last October and it has been said that his character has "close" ties to Sookie and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten is also featured in one of the pics).

Hauer has had his fair share of vampire experience playing Lothos in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Barlow in Salem's Lot , Dracula in Dracula III: Legacy and Van Helsing in Dario Argento's forthcoming Dracula .

Columbia Pictures had already revealed that all of the filming for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is taking place in New York City, but now The Wall Street Journal has taken it one step further and gone into detail about where exactly they are filming and some of the sets they are working on. Here are some excerpts from the article:

The production sprawls over about 300,000 square feet at four facilities in Long Island and Brooklyn.

The movie began shooting Feb. 1 and will take 151 days to shoot, but just a few dozen will take place on locations in the city and upstate. They will spend one day filming in the real Times Square, but 50 to 65 days shooting on Long Island.
