Latest News: Russell Replacing Costner in Tarantino's Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino is reuniting with two actors he's worked with before. Kurt Russell, who starred in Tarantino's Death Proof , is in talks to replace Kevin Costner in the filmmaker's Django Unchained while Kill Bill Vol. 2 co-star Laura Cayouette is on board as well, says Heat Vision .

They will be joining Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney and Dennis Christopher in the film that's scheduled to start shooting in November for a December 25, 2012 release.

In the film, Django (Foxx) is a freed slave, who under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Waltz) becomes a badass bounty hunter himself. After assisting Waltz on taking down some bad guys for profit, he is in turn assisted by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and...

EXCL: Shawn Levy Talks Frankenstein and Fantastic Voyage

With his Real Steel hitting theaters in two weeks, director Shawn Levy spoke with ComingSoon.net about that film at today's press junket in Los Angeles. We'll have the full video interviews up soon, but Levy also offered an update on two major genre projects, both of which he says are still likely.

"According to the internet, I'm going to be directing 19 different movies simultaneously as my next," he laughed, "[but] 'Frankenstein' is a very good possibility."

Rumored for the adaptation last month , Levy would adapt Max Landis' screenplay, based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel. Details are few, but he did drop one hint of what audiences can expect.

"It's a radical retelling of that Frankenstein legend," he teased.

The other...

Exclusive Interviews: Clive Owen vs. Jason Statham in Killer Elite

There's a lot that isn't particularly known about the British military here in the States, including the fact they have their own special forces made up of an elite team of soldiers who are pivotal to the wartime effort; one division of these forces is known as the Special Air Service or SAS.

Killer Elite , based on Sir Ranulph Fiennes' 1999 novel "The Feather Men," is a conspiracy thriller about three SAS agents targeted for assassination by one of their targets. Jason Statham plays Danny, an assassin hired to get revenge on three British soldiers responsible for the death of the sons of a powerful Sheikh. Unbeknownst to him, there's an elite group of businessmen and politicians who call themselves "The Feather Men," who, realizing they can't have someone...

TIFF11 Reviews: Wim Wender's Pina , U2 Doc From the Sky Down

Yesterday was Day 1 of TIFF, but it was more of a strange half day where we only watched two movies and only one that had its TIFF premiere, which was Wim Wender's Pina . For whatever reason, TIFF's opening night seemed to be off on a German kick, between that and the Opening Night Selection, Davis Guggenheim's U2 portrait From the Sky Down , which focuses on their "Achtung Baby" album mostly recorded in Berlin, and then Werner Herzog was back at TIFF with his new documentary Into the Abyss .

The other movie we saw yesterday was the Brad Pitt baseball movie Moneyball . You can read our thoughts on that here as well as read reviews of Ryan Gosling's two movies at TIFF, Nicolas Refn's Drive and George Clooney's The Ides of March (by clicking on their respective...

David R. Ellis Takes Kite

David R. Ellis, whose Shark Night 3D hits theaters today, has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of the Japanese OVA Kite , Variety reports.

Released as two halves in Japan, the 1998 anime was directed by Yasuomi Umetsu and told the story of a sexually abused orphaned schoolgirl, Sawa, who becomes an assassin.

The original famous for its high level of sex and violence, Kite has been planned for a live-action version for some time. In 2008, it was announced that Mexican directors Jorge and Javier Aguilera were attached, though nothing significant developed.

Production on Kite is expected to begin in early 2012.
