EXCL: Michael Giacchino Will Return for Star Trek Sequel

Though it comes as no surprise given his frequent teaming with director J.J. Abrams, fans should be pleased to learn that Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino will officially be returning for the as-of-yet-untitled Star Trek sequel .

"Yes, I'll be back," Giacchino told ComingSoon.net last night at a home video release event for the duo's last collaboration, Super 8 . "I'll be there just as soon as they finish it."

Syfy has ordered a pilot based on the DC Comics character Booster Gold, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter . "Fringe" writer Andrew Kreisberg has been tasked with writing a pilot.

Created by Dan Jurgens in 1986 and featured in his own eponymous series, Booster Gold is the superheroic identity of Michael Jon Carter, a resident of the 25th century who travels back in time to the present day DC Universe. When he brought up the reboot of Tomb Raider he's working on with Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, we wondered about the decision considering the reaction to the previous two movies starring Angelina Jolie. Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 earned an impressive $ 72 million on Friday in North American theaters, the third-biggest opening day and single day ever behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($ 91.1 million) and The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($ 72.7 million). The film also grossed $ 66 million Wednesday through Friday internationally.

"New Moon" went on to earn $ 142.8 million for the weekend two years ago, and "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" is also projected to open at about $ 140 million. The Bill Condon-directed film debuted with $ 30.25 million at midnight Thursday/Friday.

The cast and crew of The Amazing Spider-Man returned to New York this week and were photographed by The Daily Mail .

As you can see in the below images, Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker was seen in both his civilian clothes and wearing an alternate version of his webheaded alter-ego's costume (potentially an early version like in Sam Ram Raimi's original motion picture take on the franchise). Rhys Ifan's Curt Connors was also seen with what appears to be a recently-regrown right arm.

Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man also stars Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field. It opens in 3D and 2D theaters on July 3, 2012.

Hot News: Lincoln Adds David Oyelowo

Now filming in Virginia, Steven Spielberg has added another cast member to the extensive ensemble that is his Lincoln . Deadline is reporting that David Oyelowo has joined the project as a cavalryman.

Based on the best-selling book, "Team of Rivals," by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin (who also adapted the script with Tony Kushner), the story focuses on the life of the former President, focusing on the man's rise to politics and his role in the Civil War.

Daniel Day-Lewis is taking on the role of Lincoln with Sally Field playing his wife, Mary Todd. A release is tentatively scheduled for sometime in late 2012.

Oyelowo recently appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and will next star in Red Tails and One Shot .

Universal Plans Woody Woodpecker

Another classic cartoon character looks to be getting the big screen treatment as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a Woody Woodpecker feature film is in development from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment.

The character, a troublemaking woodpecker with an iconic laugh, first appeared in one of Universal's "Andy Panda" shorts in 1940. He was then voiced by animation legend Mel Blanc. It wasn't long before Woody became the star, his cartoon legacy vastly overshadowing that of Andy Panda.

Blades of Glory writers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky are said to be preparing a script and there's no word yet on whether or not the film is planned as a full CGI feature like Illumination's Despicable Me and the upcoming The Lorax or a CGI/live action...
