NYFF: Film Society Director Richard Peña Steps Down

The 49th New York Film Festival has been arguably one of the best festivals in many years, but it came to a bittersweet end when Film Society of Lincoln Center director Richard Peña announced before the Closing Night premiere of Alexander Payne's The Descendants that he would be stepping down at the end of 2012, following the 50th New York Film Festival. Peña has been with the Film Society for 25 years and has been a part of the festival's selection committee ever since, and according to the press release, he will be stepping down from both roles in a year.

Although Peña rarely gets mentioned in ComingSoon.net's coverage of the festival over the last nine years, he is such an integral part with all aspects of it, including picking the very distinctive tone that the festival...
